"The Demise of Recess"
Every month I pick up the free Boston Parents' Paper for its extensive calendar of events. I don't usually read the articles but this one just popped right out at me. It addresses the national trend of public schools scaling down or eliminating recess. Many administrators are under pressure to add more academic time due to the requirements of The No Child Left Behind Act.
I think it would break my heart if my children were forced to spend so much time indoors, sitting at desks.

Welcome to blogging! :) You are right, it is sad about that No Child Left Behind Act... it just seems that public schools spend so much time "teaching to the test" and with that act now even MORE time is needed. I also read about some schools taking away Music, Art, stuff like that to spend more time with the requirements. *sigh*
Warmly,
