Math & Numbers

Both boys have been able to count and recognize the numbers up to 20 for a while and during the past week or so they have really shown an interest in reading larger numbers. They had a lot of fun playing on this interactive website. They like playing a game where I tell them to find a specific number and color it pink, green, etc... The number chart is printable and the site also has some ideas for more advanced activites.

Though I am kind of leaning toward unschooling, math is the one subject for which I will definitely use a curriculum. I haven't started to research that yet. Henry would only be eligible for kindergarten in the fall so I'm not in a hurry. I think I may wait until we move to San Antonio and meet up with other homeschoolers and see what is recommended.

Henry's Projects

Henry is my project guy. He spends at least a couple of hours every day thinking about, planning or working on projects.

His latest creation is a fireplane.

First he draws up a blueprint:

After he is finished with construction he sometimes likes to paint his creation:

This is an airport he made recently:

Complete with airplanes and helicopters:

Spring picture

We removed Henry's snowman from the front door and he drew a seasonally appropriate replacement. I always find it interesting to see how his protanopia shows up in his art projects.

Signs of Spring

Warm weather has finally arrived in Boston. Most of the trees are still very bare but if you look closely you can find some signs that Spring is really here. We went to the Arboretum yesterday to see what we could find.
