Not Starting School Today
Today was the day that Henry would have started Kindergarten. I could go on and on listing the reasons why I'm glad he is not, but I'll stick to a few:
I won't have to get him to school everyday at 7:40.
He won't eat the crappy school food.
He will be able to play for more than the 30 minute recess period he would get during his 7 hour school day.
He can learn at his own pace.
KCB, the Redneck Mother, has a nice piece regarding not starting the school year.

"The Demise of Recess"
Every month I pick up the free Boston Parents' Paper for its extensive calendar of events. I don't usually read the articles but this one just popped right out at me. It addresses the national trend of public schools scaling down or eliminating recess. Many administrators are under pressure to add more academic time due to the requirements of The No Child Left Behind Act.
I think it would break my heart if my children were forced to spend so much time indoors, sitting at desks.
